A closet is one of the most important components of your house. It is a
place where you store important items such as your clothes, shoes, coats, even
food on occasion. Without knowing where these items are, your day will not be
nearly as productive as it could be.
Quite simply, many people spend so much time searching for items they’ve
either misplaced or that have been buried in their closet, that they lose a good
deal of productivity in the process. Below are some simple yet incredibly
effective tips to dramatically reduce the time you spend searching for lost
items.
First and foremost, discard all of your unused clothing. Clothes that you
know you won’t be wearing probably comprise the vast majority of your closet.
Unfortunately, it is miscellaneous items like this that cause the vast majority
of the clutter found in many people’s home’s today. If you won’t be using an
item for the foreseeable future, then get rid of it.
Be ruthless in this process; leave absolutely nothing untouched. Even though
some things may hold sentimental value to you, simply by being there cluttering
up your closet, they are dramatically reducing your productivity. It’s either
sentimental value or productivity; take your pick.
Next, identify the areas that cause you the biggest problems, such as your
shirts, shoes, jackets, etc. Whatever they may be, you will need to make
changes in that area to get your closet organized. For instance, if you find
that your coats cause the biggest mess, then purchase an organizer for them. If
you find your shoes are the biggest cause of the clutter, get individual boxes
to put each one in, instead of dumping each shoe on top of each other.
Also, utilize the closet floor. This may sound like a contradiction to most
things you’ve heard about organization, but the floor can be very effective at
keeping your closet organized when used properly.
Make sure that you fold clothing before laying it on the floor, and keep it
in one place Also, stacking bins can be very effective at keeping your smaller
items organized. Make sure that you keep each type of item together; for
instance, don’t mix your shoes with your jackets, or jeans with shirts, etc.
You can’t have good closet
organizing without a system. Find out what works for you, and simply keep
repeating it. For instance, if you find that small bins work best for you, then
do that. If shelves work better, do that. The most important part is to
identify what works and keep doing it over and over again.
These are just a few simple yet dramatically effective ways to keep your
closet organized and well kept. The truth is, if you are like most people, you
lose a good portion of your productivity each day simply searching for items
you’ve misplaced. Organizing your closet can be a major step in the right
direction. Follow these tips, and watch your closet get organized fast, and
your productivity increase as a result.
